Electrolytes and Horses

Why do you need to feed electrolytes to your horse?

  • Electrolytes are responsible for making nerves function and muscles contract.

  • Electrolytes must be present in the proper amounts for the biochemical reactions to proceed in the proper order.

  •  An exercising horse loses about 12.5 liters of electrolyte rich sweat per hour in order to manage its body temperature. This leads to electrolyte depletion and possible imbalance.

  • Improper electrolyte balance or replacement can cause problems such as poor oxygen transport, thumps, cardiac arrhythmias, tying up, muscle spasms, poor recovery and poor kidney function.

Perfect Balance Electrolite by Peak Performance is formulated to match the ratio of electrolytes lost in horses sweat. This ensures perfect rehydration and mineral replenishment for better performance and health. Perfect Balance Electrolite does not contain sugar. Many electrolytes are up to 95% sugar! Sugar slows the horse’s stomach from emptying into the gut thus slowing electrolyte absorption. Perfect Balance Electrolite does not contain sugar or other fillers for fast absorption and re-hydration.
