Fall News from Betsy Steiner Dressage – September 2009

FarmVet sponsored rider, Betsy Steiner, and her assistant trainer, Jessie Steiner, have been asked for a second year in a row to provide expert commentary on the Grand Prix Freestyles at Dressage at Devon.  They will provide insight into the tests as well as color commentary.  Be sure to listen in if you are attending Devon!

Betsy Steiner had a great weekend at Dressage at Stone Tavern in Allentown, NJ over the Labor Day Weekend.  She showed both Fino, owned by Joli Burrell and Findlay’s Titaan, owned by the University of Findlay in the Prix St. George classes on both Saturday and Sunday.  Fino won the Prix St. George on Saturday and Titaan was placed third.  They swapped positions on Sunday with Findlay’s Titaan taking the win and the FEI Championship while Fino came in a close Second and took the reserve FEI Championship, with both horses scoring in the 70%.  Betsy was extremely pleased with both of these young and talented horses!

Betsy Steiner Dressage is very proud to represent a number of sponsors and would like to thank County Saddlery, DerDau Custom Boots, FarmVet, ThinLine Saddle Pads and Ramard Supplements for their continued support.

The newest addition to the BSD training regime is The Equicizer; a safe beautifully hand-crafted non-motorized mechanical horse that can be used anywhere by almost anyone created by Frankie Lovato Jr.  It has become an often requested “pre-ride” training tool for BSD riders because it provides a great warm up and gets the riders focused on using the correct core muscles before their actual ride.  Find out more about The Equicizer visit Frankie’s website at http://www.equicizer.com/.

Betsy has had a lot of students trailering in this Fall.  It makes for a very interesting and fun environment working with such talented horses and riders. BSD’s wonderful students have created a great energy and everyone loves to gather round the coffee maker and the “treat of the week” while enjoying each other’s company and rides.  BSD is also delighted to be working with several Event riders getting a touch up on their dressage before Fair Hill.

For the first time, BSD will be keeping their NJ operation running during the upcoming winter months.  The indoor arena is attached to the stable which makes it so nice during the cold of winter to have everything under one roof.  The heated observation room and tack room will surely be popular gathering places during the colder months.  Jessie will be staying in New Jersey at Buxton Farm until the end of December when she will join Betsy in Florida.  BSD will have an assistant trainer at the barn in New Jersey to help with their clients at home while Betsy and Jessie are in Florida.  Betsy will be heading down to Wellington around the middle of November to begin working with her students in Florida.  Both Betsy and Jessie will be traveling back to New Jersey throughout the Winter season for monthly clinics at Buxton Farm so they can keep up with their students in New Jersey.  Jessie will be returning to New Jersey in early April and Betsy will be back the beginning of May.  They are looking forward to a fun and productive season both in Florida and New Jersey.  If you are interested in finding out more information about either location you can check out the BSD web site at http://www.betsysteinerdressage.com/ or send an email to Jessie at jessies731@aol.com.

The BSD internship program continues to be a success.  They had another student from Lake Erie College join the team in August and they currently have a part-time intern from Delaware Valley College and a full time intern from Michigan.

Upcoming Events

October 3 & 4

Steffan Peters Clinic, Chesapeake Dressage Institute, Maryland

Betsy and Jessie are both taking advantage of the opportunity to train with Steffen Peters at a clinic he is giving in Maryland.  Betsy will ride Findlay’s Titan and Jessie is riding Kelly Murray’s Remington.  Both of these combinations have worked with Steffen at clinics during the Florida season and have gained so much working with him.  His very keen eye and his sensitivity to the horses is so valuable.   We are looking forward to a great educational weekend!
