FarmVet Product Spotlight: Adequan, Legend, and Gastogard

FarmVet would like to bring your attention to the following products:

Adequan

Adequan is given as an intramuscular injection. Beneficial levels of Adequan are already at work in all major joints within two hours of the injection, with an even greater uptake (up to 73% higher) in inflamed or diseased joint tissues.  The pain and disability relief Adequan offers has been shown to last up to 6 months or longer.

Adequan works by binding to damaged cartilage and boosting cartilage metabolism, facilitating the repair processes.  At the same time, it blocks the action of destructive enzymes that promote joint inflammation, break down the synovial fluid, and attack the cartilage.  Adequan stimulates the synovial membrane to manufacture new synovial fluid to replace the thin, degraded fluid of joint disease. Thus, Adequan helps lubricate, nourish, and clean your horse’s cartilage.

Legend

Legend (hyaluronate sodium) is pure hyaluronic acid, similar to the HA present in normal joint fluid.  Since its introduction nearly 10 years ago, Legend is still the only FDA-approved intravenous equine joint therapy.  Legend significantly decreases inflammation associated with joint disease in horses, decreases inflammatory mediators within the joint, and, decreases the degree of lameness in horses with arthritis (joint inflammation).

In well-controlled clinical field trials, overall improvement was rated as excellent or good in more than 90% of all horses treated with Legend intravenously or intra-articularly.

GastroGard

It has been reported that more than 80% of highly trained horses will develop gastric ulcers. But only one anti-ulcer drug, GastroGard, has been found to significantly decrease the risk of developing moderate to severe gastric ulcers during training

GastroGard is highly effective at healing gastric ulcers in horses and preventing their recurrence. Efficacy has been demonstrated in male and female adult horses and foals in a variety of clinical and field settings. GastroGard is a highly effective inhibitor of acid secretion in horses, creating an intragastric environment in which ulcer healing can occur.
